We're Hosting!

Boy and Balloons On Monday, October 3rd, at 7:00 PM, the Columbus-Whitehall Toastmasters Club will host the Area Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest!

This is a time when all Club members are needed to help out in a many different areas. Attending the area contest will be a good opportunity to enhance your skills and it offers a good networking opportunity among other area clubs. In addition, it is an excellent way to introduce friends and associates to Toastmasters International. Guests are welcome, bring them along!

As the host club for the area contest, we are counting on member support. The contest will be held at the Business Technology Center at 1275 Kinner Road in Columbus. Directions are given on this site: http://www.btccolumbus.com/contact.htm#

We look forward to a fun-filled time as we select the Area's representative to the District contests!

More on the Birthing

Birth The Columbus-Whitehall Toastmasters Club gave birth to its newest offspring ... the Triedstone Community Toastmasters Club. The Demo Team was headed by Eric Ralph, Eastern Division Governor of Toastmasters. The team was further supported by Sandra Oliver, Ashlee Ralph, Craig Wilson, Jerry Smith, and Kate Gaylord, District 40 Evaluation Champion.

The new Club now has 15 paid members and 4 others with a promise. The next meeting will be Thursday, October 6th, at 7:00 PM, at Triedstone Baptist Church, 858 E. 3rd Ave., Columbus, OH.

If you have interested friends, co-workers, or family, please invite them to be a part of the Toastmaster movements!

Thanks to Whitehall Toastmasters President Dana Rogers and Chuck Scott for making this happen. Like Keith Moore and Chuck Scott, you may join both clubs. This will give Toastmasters twice as many opportunities to enhance their listening, thinking, and speaking skills.

Contact Chuck Scott at membership@whitehall-toastmasters.org for more information.

Word of the Day

Want to increase your vocabulary? You could look at these links daily for a daily new word that you might or might not know:
Merriam-Webster Online
dictionary.com
Wordsmith
Oxford English Dictionary

You can also attend our club meetings on a regular basis and be assured of learning (and having the opportunity to use) at least 2 new words a month.

Vanessa Sutton, our grammarian for September 13th, brought us the word "insouciant". This adjective is derived from a French word and means unconcerned, carefree, nonchalant. To use it in a sentence, "Toastmasters who regularly participate in Table Topics can handle many impromptu questions in an insouciant manner."

Did You Know....?

Reading Magazine We Toastmasters have wonderful resources. One resource is the excellent set of manuals from which we get our speech objectives and lessons. Another resource is a monthly one, known as The Toastmaster magazine.

Did you know that some articles from The Toastmaster magazine are now online? That's right! If you remember an earlier article that you really need now for your speech or hat duty or leadership skill, stop frantically tearing up your house searching for it. Instead, you can now look at this site, Member Information > The Toastmaster magazine, and find that great article again -- just exactly when you need it.

Toastmasters International is continually trying to bring us the best, and this is another way in which they're enhancing our effectiveness. Let's make good use of all our resources!
