COLUMBUS-WHITEHALL TOASTMASTERS NEWSLETTER |
As a baby, we all had to learn first how to crawl,
then how to take baby steps and eventually how to walk.
The joy shown by a giant smile that is on a baby's face
when one takes those first steps, wobbly at first, but
eventually walking a small stretch without falling is
something that one never forgets.
The Toastmaster Club is a great environment to learn how to crawl, and eventually how to take those first steps without falling. Ask most people why they join Toastmasters. They will tell you that it is the positive learning environment that helps one set goals, learn how to achieve them, the opportunity to receive helpful evaluations of a speech and learn things that will help promote your professional career. Working toward being a President's Distinguished Club is one of the Goals that Columbus - Whitehall Club #3002 presently has. The President's Distinguished Club is an annual program that runs from July 1 through June 30. The three primary accomplishments focus on the educational awards, building membership and gaining recognition for meeting the goals. The program consists of 10 goals that our club plans to achieve. Our club's goals are to have five (5) CTMs, one (1) ATM-B, two(2) ATM-S, one (1) CL, one (1) AL, eight (8) new members and have our semiannual membership report and one club officer list submitted on time.

Well, everyone has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as a loss, whatever of this amount you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the records of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the "tomorrow". You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today. Seize the day!

Sound familiar? How? Two years ago I wrote the above lead for an InfoBytes (#7) article. It was as timely then as it is now. Since writing the article I have attended another 5 Area and District speech contests or conferences. They continue to reinforce my basic beliefs for world class speaking! One of the best speech seminars was given by Jim Key, a TI World Champion speaker. He delivered his world class speech as an example of speech writing and speech presentation. I have heard the best, and I have heard our club speakers. There isn't much that separates us from the best. How do you become World Class?
Speak and write. Start in the club and "GROW." Work on your first 10 speeches. Capitalize on your speeches by converting them into articles. Your club speeches make super articles not only for our club and district newsletters but also for "The Toastmaster," our international publication. After all, who is more informed on the subject matter of your own speeches than yourself! With most of your basic speeches done and a club newsletter or two published, aim higher. Enter into speech contests. Visit other Clubs. Become a Club Officer. Become the Area Governor! Compete in fun and fellowship! ![]() Attend the District Contests. Attend Officer and Club Member training. Submit articles to the District Newsletter or to TI! Toastmasters is your playground!! Go Play!!!
